PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- When it comes to Fitness, some start very young. A girls running program focuses on making exercise fun, boosting confidence and learning teamwork.

Starting healthy habits at a young age is great because it will make it easier for those habits to stick as they grow up.

This program is called Supergirl Striders. The coach says overall the goal is to empower girls.

Bounds of energy, and plenty of smiles - that's what stands out among this group of 4 to 6 year old girls in Conshohocken. Their workout starts with a warm-up and a cheer.

Kasey Marwaring started Supergirl Striders to boost girls confidence and get them excited about exercise, in this case running.

"Running is such a great sport, anyone can do it, anywhere," she said. "It's just something that will always make you feel good and good for your health."

The program also encourages teamwork and supporting others.

Four-year-old Bella was born with a congenital heart defect. She's fine to run now, but takes her time.

"They cheer for her, even though she's coming in last because it takes her a little bit longer, but really she just loves to be in the group," said Bella's mom, Erin Borkowski.

After drills and laps, comes what many girls say is the best part.

"When we do obstacle courses on the big field," said Bella.

"Some of their favorites, not my favorites are burpees and squats and just running sprints," said parent, Tracey Harper.

"I like to run and exercise," said Tracey's daughter, Olivia.

"It's just great for your body," said 5-year-old Supergirl Strider, Paige Sherman.

Supergirl Striders is an 8 week program with three different locations. It ends bringing all the girls together for a race on the Wissahickon Trail.

The Spring session is wrapping up, but there will be a summer session. That one is five weeks. The cost is $60.
