Suspension training has become a big trend in workouts.

But advocates say it can also be a good workout for the whole body.

In programs like TRX, or total resistance extreme, straps are used to position your body, and do exercises.

The American Council on Exercise says it can strengthen muscles and bones, and in building muscle, you also boost metabolism.

"It gives you a chance to utilize small muscle groups that you kind of didn't know existed before. Just with the balancing, and there's just fine motor skills that you need to use in order to balance yourself on the straps," said Lisa Bobb.

If you decide to try a TRX or other suspension program, make sure the trainer is certified, emphasizes technique, but also gives positive reinforcement to get students through tough workouts.
