Two children diagnosed with flu virus in Delaware

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Officials in Delaware are confirming two children in the state have the flu virus.

These are the first two cases of the virus in kids in Delaware this season.

Both cases in Delaware are in kids under four years old. Young kids are more likely to have complications from the flu and they're also more likely to spread the virus.

According to the CDC, activity is starting to pick up in the West and South and the number of cases is also creeping up in Pennsylvania.

The flu comes on suddenly with a fever, cough, sore throat, headache and runny nose. If you suspect you have the flu, anti-viral medication can help if it's taken within the first 48 hours.

This is especially important for people at high risk for complications.

And it's not too late to get a flu shot. The vaccine can help prevent you from getting sick or at least lessen the severity of symptoms.
