Uber helping riders sign up for health care this weekend: Ali Gorman reports during Action News at 5pm on November 9, 2017. (WPVI)

Ride sharing service, Uber, is driving an unusual initiative this weekend.

It is holding events in 28 cities offering in-person assistance in signing up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

The company says it's making the move because there's a big appetite for health insurance among its 600,000 drivers. However, advertising and assistance for the federal marketplace has been cut by 90 percent.

Other high-tech companies are making similar efforts.
