Elderly man knits up a storm to help newborn babies

ACWORTH, GA -- An 86-year-old man living in an assisted living facility in Georgia managed to teach himself to knit to give the littlest among us a better chance at life. He stitched together small caps to keep premature babies warm at his local hospital.

Ed Moseley lives at the Dogwood Forest Assisted Living community in Acworth, Georgia. When the community urged residents to take part in an outreach program to help make caps for the babies at the neonatal intensive care unit at Northside Hospital, Moseley wanted to join the effort.

Though he initially didn't know how to knit, he quickly picked up the skill with the help of a loom kit. He's knitted more than 50 of the caps so far.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that initially reported the story, noted that Moseley's effort inspired others to knit, and, on Thursday's National Preemie Awareness Day, he managed to give 350 baby caps to the hospital.
