Tackling flooding in Atlantic City
A long awaited construction project is now underway

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- In Atlantic City, a long awaited construction project is now underway, to help prevent flooding.

This was a groundbreaking ceremony for the Baltic avenue canal project.

Mayor Don Guardian and other city officials were on hand to mark the occasion.

The project, which is partially federally funded, is aimed at improving the drainage of the century old canal.

During high tides, it can only hold so much, before it pushes excess rainwater onto city streets.

But that will hopefully change once the project is completed.
