Man shot dead, car riddled with bullets in Tacony

TACONY (WPVI) -- Police say an unidentified man was shot dead and a car was riddled with bullets in the Tacony section of Philadelphia.

The incident happened around midnight Friday on Longshore Avenue near Gillespie Street.

The victim, a man in his 30s was found near a BMW with two gunshot wounds. Police say they found at least 12 bullet holes in the vehicle.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said, "We believe the victim was just getting into or exiting the BMW because we found the victim right next to the vehicle with the driver door still wide open."

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors told police the victim was new to the neighborhood.

It is unclear on who shot the man and why.
