PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A driver is facing charges after a shooting in Philadelphia's Manayunk neighborhood on Saturday night.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 3900 block of Manayunk Avenue.

Police say the incident involved a 37-year-old man in a van and a Jeep occupied by a male driver, his wife and their 7-year-old child.

Police say the van driver apparently passed the family on Ridge Avenue and that's when the Jeep driver followed out of suspicion the man was either under the influence or in distress.

The van driver later crashed and that's when an altercation occurred.

Police say the van driver approached the family in the Jeep, at one point punching the vehicle.

The driver of the Jeep had a legally owned gun and warned the man to back away from his family, thinking the man was trying to take their vehicle.

The Jeep driver then shot the man multiple times, according to investigators.

The 37-year-old victim is expected to survive his injuries.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office filed charges against the Jeep driver, identified as Matthew Lorusso.

He is being charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, Simple Assault, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

Philadelphia police originally said this incident may have been a result of a road rage incident.
