2 rescued from car after driver crashes into tree

NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) -- Two people were rescued from a car after it crashed into a tree in New Castle County.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Sunday on Red Lion Road near Old Summit Road.

Police say the sedan collided with a tree trapping two people inside.

Firefighters worked for approximately 35 minutes to extricate the victims from the wreckage.

The victims were treated on scene and then transported to Christiana Hospital.

A 72-year-old male with chest and abdominal injuries is listed in stable condition.

A 68-year-old female with facial injuries, leg injuries and a possible fractured pelvis is listed in serious, but stable condition.

Police are investigating.
