Avalon considers banning ice cream trucks and vendors
Avalon considers banning ice cream trucks and vendors: Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4pm on October 24, 2017.

AVALON, N.J. (WPVI) -- It's the iconic sound of summer and the one sound that sends kids both little and big running for a sweet treat.

But Avalon is considering banning Mister Softee and friend's bells from ringing on the beach.

The borough's council is considering an ordinance that would ban so called peddlers and hawkers from selling ice cream or other items on the beach and on the streets.

The ordinance also would strip pushcarts of those bells and whistles used to get your attention.

Officials say people are complaining and it disrupts the peace.

Opponents of the ordinance hope the borough decides to leave the summer sounds and nostalgic summer staples alone.
