Heavy rain brings rough conditions at the Jersey Shore. Annie McCormick reports during Action News at 11 p.m. on July 21, 2018.

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- The rain subsided Saturday night at the Jersey Shore, but the wind picked up on the Atlantic City boardwalk.

Ponchos are the hot accessory here.

"I feel like I'm in a balloon, it'd be good if you're flying a kite," said Diane Holloway of Quantico, Virginia.

The Holloways who are visiting from Virginia for their family reunion say it's not beach weather but it's bringing them luck.

"I think it's crazy so I won $200, so I don't care," said Diane. I won $800 so I feel good," said Willie Holloway. "And I won nothing, but I'm happy I'm here," said another relative.

In Ventnor, rough surf kicked up well after high tide.

The boardwalk was empty, and the waters were volatile in Ocean City.

Flooding hit some intersections including Surf Road and Atlantic Boulevard.

The depth is deceiving to some motorists. But bicyclists managed to get through.

During the day lifeguards would not let people in to swim for safety concerns.

Cabin fever got the better of one group who couldn't resist a dip after a day stuck on land.

We said to Craig Pensabene of Oreland, Pa. it's not recommended. And he said, "Not recommended, we're in waist high-water. We were careful. Their parents aren't happy with me, but that's okay."

A lot of beaches are not allowing swimmers in the water.

The rough conditions could continue into Sunday.
