Police: Drunk teacher removed from Pa. high school

NEWPORT, Pa. -- State police plan to charge a central Pennsylvania high school teacher who was found to be drunk and possessing booze in class.

Troopers say the teacher was removed from his class at Newport High School in Perry County about 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the teacher was removed by school administrators, and that students were taken to an unspecified "safe location."

State police say in a news release they planned to charge the teacher with endangering the welfare of children. The Associated Press was not identifying the teacher because the charges had yet to be filed Wednesday morning.

Newport School District's superintendent didn't immediately return a call seeking comment on the incident and the teacher's employment status.
