LIMERICK, Pa. (WPVI) -- In Montgomery County, residents plagued with contaminated well water in Limerick Township won't have to deal with the problem much longer.

Officials and residents stood side by side in the Hilltop neighborhood Tuesday for the groundbreaking of a new construction project that will replace water wells in the area that are contaminated.

The water had TCE and PCE in it, which are known to cause cancer.

Clean water has been an issue there for more than 15 years and this is the water that families use for bathing cooking and drinking.

New filtration will come with the $1.5-million project, along with new water lines.

Residents say this has been frustrating and a real quality of life issue for them. So this new water system will hopefully be a long-term solution for those families.
