SCRANTON, Pa. -- Prosecutors in neighboring northeastern Pennsylvania counties are at odds over documents in the case of a state trooper's shooting death outside his barracks a year ago.

32-year-old Eric Frein is awaiting trial in Pike County in the September 2014 slaying of Cpl. Bryon Dickson at the Blooming Grove barracks.

Defense attorneys are seeking documents relating to an internal investigation of a state trooper involved in the case. Pike County prosecutors say they must be turned over to avoid giving Frein an appeal issue.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Andy Jarbola has sought a protective order to seal the documents. But he told reporters Tuesday that his counterpart misunderstood his action, and he was only trying to keep the information from being made public, not to keep it from defense attorneys.
