BETHLEHEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Lehigh Valley man is recovering nearly a week after he was hit by a car while trying to protect his girlfriend.

Jeremy Magditch and his girlfriend, Samantha Anthony, were on a date last Friday in Bethlehem.

After dinner, the couple crossed the street to head home when Anthony spotted a truck speeding toward them.

In that moment, 29-year-old Magditch pushed his girlfriend out of harm's way taking on the full impact of the truck.

"He was already unconscious, and I told him he was OK," said Anthony. "I think it really hit me that it was him and that it was happening."

Magditch suffered a traumatic brain injury, as well as multiple fractures to his legs, face and back.

He is currently in a coma, but his family said he's making progress.

The driver of the truck is facing a number of charges including DUI.
