Police investigating homicide in Wilmington

WILMINGTON (WPVI) -- A shooting in Wilmington left one man dead on Wednesday.

Police responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 4 p.m. in the area of 4th and Monroe Street.

Police said the 53-year-old victim was found in the 300 block of Monroe Street suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdominal area.

He was rushed to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they located more than a dozen shell casings in the 400 block of North Monroe Street.

A vehicle was stopped a short distance away, police said, and the occupants were taken into custody.
