CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating a case of vandalism at Wills Eye Hospital in Center City.

It happened at 2 a.m. Thursday at the hospital in the 800 block of Walnut Street.

A Jefferson University Hospital security guard told police after he heard banging, looked up, and saw a man throw a trash can through a window on the 9th floor of Wills.

The guard told police the man then threw other items out of the window, which landed on Walnut Street.

The guard called other security guards.

They went to the 9th floor, took a 30-year-old suspect into custody and called police.

Officers confirmed the damage and also found a water pipe on the 14th floor which had been broken, causing flooding all the way down to the first floor.

There was no immediate word what sparked the vandalism.

Charges were pending against the suspect.
