Man shot during robbery attempt near nightclub in Del.

DOVER, Del. -- Dover police say a man was shot in the leg during an armed robbery attempt in a parking lot near a nightclub.

Police say the shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday in a Home Depot parking lot on North DuPont Highway. Bubba's Nightclub is next door to the store.

Police say a 36-year-old man in the parking lot was approached by a man wielding a handgun who demanded money. The man tried to run away, and the gunman opened fire but missed.

Police say the gunman fired again as the victim was getting into his vehicle, and the man was struck in the upper leg. The victim drove himself to a hospital for treatment.

Police have not identified a suspect.
