PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Two parking promotions in Philadelphia are concluding due to the popularity of the meterUP app, the Philadelphia Parking Authority said Thursday.

The two promotions that will end are: no meter fees in Center City after 5 p.m. each Wednesday and on the first Friday of each month in Old City.

Beginning October 5 for the Wednesday promo and October 7 for First Friday, meter fees will be required every night, including Wednesdays and first Fridays, up to the time posted on the parking regulation sign on each block.

The PPA says the conclusion of these promotions is intended to increase parking opportunities for those shopping and dining in the city, and in light of the increased flexibility afforded by the meterUp app.

The PPA says they have increased time limits in the evening on most Center City blocks allowing enough time for people participating in night time activities without being rushed to get back to move their car.

To date, there have been over 51,000 downloads of the meterUp app.
