Police shot and wounded a 17-year-old who allegedly pointed a gun at officers in West Philadelphia.

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police shot and wounded a 17-year-old who allegedly pointed a gun at officers in West Philadelphia.

It happened around 8:45 Sunday night along the 5700 block of Media Street.

Police received the report of a man with a gun.

Officers arrived, and after a brief foot chase, authorities say the teen turned and pointed the gun.

Police opened fire, striking the suspect in the torso and the shoulder.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. His condition has not yet been released.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Philadelphia Police Internal Affairs is handling the investigation.
