2 hurt after car leaves NJ Turnpike, crashes in woods in Gloucester County

A serious crash caused delays on the New Jersey Turnpike in Gloucester County.

WOOLWICH TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Two people are hospitalized after a serious crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Gloucester County.

It happened before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound lanes in Woolwich Township.

State police tell Action News a driver lost control and went off the highway.

Images from Chopper 6 HD broadcast on Action News at 6:30 a.m. showed medics freeing at least one person from a sedan lying on its side in some woods some distance away from the turnpike.

A medical helicopter landed on the highway a short time later and transported that victim to an area hospital.

Another person was also injured.

There was no immediate word on the extent of injuries to either victim.

Northbound traffic was delayed approaching the scene.
