HOLMESBURG (WPVI) -- Two people were injured in a fiery, multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia.

It happened around 6:10 p.m. Thursday along the southbound lanes, just north of Cottman Avenue.

Initial reports are three vehicles collided with two of the three involved catching fire.

Officials say crews experienced the added challenge of getting to the fire due to heavy-volume rush hour traffic.

Once able to apply water on the fire, officials say it took only a matter of minutes to knock down the flames.

Traffic backlogged several miles as a result of the crash.

The injured were taken to Aria-Torresdale Hospital for care. No word on their conditions at this time.

The roadway has since been reopened.
