2 teens charged following altercation at Wilmington school

WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Police have arrested two Newark teens following an altercation at a school in which a gun was displayed.

The incident happened on October 29th around 8 p.m. at John Dickinson High School at 1801 Milltown Road in Wilmington, Delaware.

Police say 17-year-old Joan A. Ayon and 15-year-old Luis D. Alvarado confronted an 18-year-old male student at the school

According to police, when Ayon came into contact with the victim, he allegedly punched him in the face.

Both the victim and suspect then began to fight and fell to the ground.

Police say when the victim got up, Alvarado handed Ayon a handgun that she pointed at the victim.

The victim was then pulled away from Ayon by a bystander. Police say the victim's father was also present and stood between his son and Ayon.

Both suspects then fled the school in a pick-up truck.

Police were able to identify the suspects after several interviews.

They were both arrested on Friday.

Luis Alvarado is charged with 3 counts of reckless endangering 1st degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, conspiracy 2nd degree, and tampering with evidence. He was arraigned at the New Castle County Family Court and released on $18,000.00 unsecured bail.

Joan Ayon was charged with 3 counts of 3 counts of reckless endangering 1st degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, 2 counts of terroristic threatening, conspiracy 2nd degree, and offensive touching. He was arraigned at the New Castle County Family Court and released on $19,250.00 unsecured bail.
