WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Fire officials say a total of 56 apartments were affected by a fire on Thursday evening in Wilmington, Delaware.

The blaze broke out around 7:30 p.m. at the Wawaset Place Apartments at 818 Woodlawn Avenue.

Firefighters say they arrived to find smoke pouring out of the main entrance, though fortunately everyone had gotten out.

The initial effort to extinguish fire was complicated by an electrical problem, fire officials say, and power had to be cut before they could put out the flames.

The fire remains under investigation.

The property owner was working to find shelter for the residents who were affected, officials say.
