Happy reunion with pets in Kensington
Happy reunion with pets in Kensington: Jeannette Reyes reports during Action News at Noon on January 7, 2018.

KENSINGTON (WPVI) -- A family which lost loved ones and its home when Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico has finally been reunited with four beloved pets.

Alex Marrera sent his wife and nephews to stay in the Kensington section of Philadelphia before Maria hit.

A week after the storm passed, the disabled Army veteran was forced to leave the island himself.

But he had to leave behind two dogs and two cats.

On Saturday, Action News was there as the family pets arrived for a joyful reunion, thanks to Puerto Rico Animal Unite and Saved Me Animal Rescue.

"Being reunited with my pets, it's been the best gift I could get today," said Marrera.

Marrera added it was a fitting way to celebrate Three Kings Day, with his fully reunited family back together again.
