Bayonne explosion injures 3 workers, 2 police officers
Toni Yates has the latest on an explosion Wednesday morning in Bayonne.

BAYONNE, N.J. -- An explosion injured three contractors installing a new gas main on a street named to honor Korean War veterans.

Public Service Electric & Gas says the workers were testing the pipe with air, which is standard practice, when the incident took place around 9 a.m. Wednesday on Chosin Few Way in a section of Bayonne that was once a military base.

Police Lt. Robert Wizbicki says two workers were taken to Jersey City Medical Center with serious injuries.

Another worker sustained minor injuries and two police officers at the worksite were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Wizbicki says there is no additional danger to the public because there is no gas in the line.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
