PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Four local catholic churches will shut down after the holidays.

Effective January 11th, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will close Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and Saint Madeline Sophie, both in the city's Mount Airy section.

In the suburbs, Saint Augustine's in Bridgeport will close down along with St. Mary's Chapel, the original Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in West Grove. The ABVM Church on 300 State Road in West Grove across from the Avon Grove High School is not closing.

The archdiocese cited a number of reasons including maintenance costs.
