Driver killed when SUV hits tree in Newark, Del.

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- New Castle County police are investigating a fatal accident near the Maryland state line.

Police were dispatched at 12:26 p.m. Friday to a report of an accident with a person trapped on Frenchtown Road in Newark.

The driver of an SUV was traveling east on Frenchtown Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no word what caused the crash.

The identity of the driver has not been released.
