ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- A former eastern Pennsylvania police officer has been charged with assaulting two men whom he had taken into custody.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said Monday that 28-year-old Ryan Alles of Quakertown was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses. Alles was fired from the Allentown police force on Friday.

Authorities allege in court documents that one man said Alles kicked him in the eye, head and ribs following a foot chase in June. He was treated at a hospital. Martin said Alles wrongly suspected the man in an armed robbery.

Authorities also allege that fellow Allentown officers saw Alles kick a handcuffed suspect in the head in December.

A listed number for Alles rang unanswered Monday and it wasn't clear whether he had an attorney.
