PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Investigators say they cannot determine the cause of the blaze that killed Philadelphia firefighter Joyce Craig.

Lieutenant Craig died while fighting a fire in a basement recreation room inside a home on the 1600 block of Middleton Street on December 9th.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Fire Department said they were unable to determine a point of origin or an ignition source because of the "complete destruction" of the room.

The department says the investigation included 40 interviews and a seven day investigation at the scene.

They were also aided by an electrical engineer and fire protection specialist from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Though the fire is listed as undetermined, officials say it does not prevent the fire marshal from reopening the case if new information becomes available.
