Mariah Carey hits the high notes for Las Vegas residency

Mariah Carey says she hit the jackpot with her opening night audience at The Colosseum inside Caesars Palace for her nearly two-hour career retrospective.

On Wednesday night the pop icon joined the very Vegas club of performers who take up residence at a venue on the Strip. She shares The Colosseum's stage with rotating headliners Celine Dion, Elton John and Rod Stewart.

Her show "Mariah #1 to Infinity" catalogues her 18 number one hit singles in chronological order capping it off with her just released breakup ballad "Infinity."

The near-capacity crowd at Wednesday's show cheered with every one of Carey's characteristically piercing high notes.

Tickets cost $55 to $250 and Carey is scheduled to perform three nights a week in May and July for a total of 18 shows.
