NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- A police officer and a civilian were injured in a crash in Newark, Delaware.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Route 4 and Route 72.

Authorities say the officer was responding to the report of a burglary in progress at the time.

That's when a Mazda 3, travelling northbound on Route 72, was struck by the cruiser.

Both the officer and the driver of the Mazda were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment. Their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The crash is under investigation.
