Allentown man found guilty in murder of girlfriend

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Lehigh County jury has decided the fate of an Allentown man accused of killing a Schuylkill County woman last year.

WFMZ-TV reports accused killer Anthony Heath was found guilty on all charges including murder in the first degree.

Family and friends of Angela Steigerwalt cried as the verdict was read. Heath sat quiet.

The 26-year-old Heath represented himself in the murder trial.

"I felt I could not express myself to counsel," Heath said of the decision to represent himself.

Throughout his testimony, Heath tried to rescind what he allegedly told investigators immediately after his arrest.

He now claims that Steigerwalt died as a result of rough sex they were having in his Chew Street apartment.

"I lied about a lot of things. I wasn't comfortable stating the sexual things I did behind closed doors," Heath told jurors.

Prosecutors claim Heath originally admitted to strangling Steigerwalt, a Kraft foods worker, with a TV cord after she said she would not join him at an upcoming child custody hearing for Heath's two children.
