9-year-old girl hit by home health transport bus in Salem, New Jersey

SALEM, N.J. (WPVI) -- A 9-year-old girl is hospitalized after being struck by a bus in Salem, New Jersey.

It happened shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday on Walnut Street near Sinnickson Street.

Police say their initial investigation found a home health transport bus was traveling south on Walnut Street carrying two passengers.

The driver told police he saw a girl running out into the street and tried to swerve to avoid the child.

Police say the girl was struck in the forehead by one of the bus's rearview mirrors.

The driver pulled over and called 911.

Medics took the girl, who was described as conscious and alert, to Christiana Hospital to be treated for a head injury.

Police say no charges will be filed in the case.
