Gas station clerk beaten during attempted robbery

STRAWBERRY MANSION (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are trying to identify a man who was caught on surveillance beating a gas station attendant during a robbery attempt in the city's Strawberry Mansion section.

It happened at 3:25 a.m. on August 5th at the Sunoco station located on the 1700 block of North 33rd Street.

Police say the suspect entered the gas station and then kicked in a secured door leading to the cash register area.

The suspect then began to assault the 52-year-old employee inside, punching him in his head and face.

When the employee dialed 911, the suspect fled the scene empty-handed.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20 years-of-age, 6'0, medium complexion, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, dark colored jeans, and gray shoes.
