Man charged in Fishtown store robbery

FISHTOWN (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police have a man in custody in connection with the robbery of a grocery store in the city's Fishtown section.

41-year-old Hector Torres of the 2400 block of Hagert Avenue is charged with robbery, terroristic threats, simple assault, and related charges.

The robbery occurred at 11:07 p.m. on July 22nd at the Quick Stop located at 2518 Frankford Avenue.

Torres allegedly entered the store and had his hand wrapped in a t-shirt simulating that he had a weapon.

He pointed his hand at a witness and demanded money from the cash register, police said.

He then allegedly tried to take cash from the employee's hand but was unsuccessful.

Torres then allegedly fled on foot.

Surveillance video of the incident was released and tips from the public led investigators to Torres.

Further investigation into Torres showed him to be a previous employee of the grocery store for a short time and used an alias of Angel Torres.
