DOVER, Del. -- Dover police say an officer has shot a man downtown after receiving a tip that he had a handgun.

Chief Paul Bernat says officers received the tip about 1 p.m. Friday that 21-year-old Terrence Fletcher had a handgun while he was downtown. Bernat says officers went to the scene, and chased Fletcher on foot.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot of a daycare, Bernat says. The chief does not know what led to the shooting, but says a handgun was recovered.

Fletcher sustained a flesh wound to his thigh, Bernat said, and was taken to a hospital in good condition.
