Body, wrapped in blanket, found in Fairmount Park

FAIRMOUNT PARK (WPVI) -- Police are investigating after a body was found in the woods of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.

Officials said someone passing by spotted the body wrapped in a blanket on Reservoir Drive shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The person hasn't been identified and officials can't assign an approximate age to the remains.

Sources tell Action News that the body is so badly decomposed, police are not sure of the gender or if the person suffered any type of trauma.

An autopsy will be needed for that information, sources said.
