INDIANAPOLIS (WPVI) -- A third grader in Indiana is making big waves for his efforts to end violence in his community.

Eight-year-old Reese wrote a poignant letter to the Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, begging for change.

The two of them sat and talked for nearly an hour, sharing ideas about what can be done.

Reese told the mayor he would love to get his classmates and other city children together to march for peace.

Two men were gunned down in his neighborhood last week, and he has a message for young people everywhere.

"Stop the violence, because it's never the answer," he said.

Now, Reese's idea turned into action.

His march for peace is scheduled for a Saturday in October.
