Burglars break into home in Newark, Delaware

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- Police are searching for two suspects who broke into a home in Newark, Delaware.

The incident happened on the 100 block of East Park Place around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Police say a 22-year-old man was asleep on the second floor when he was woken up by one of the burglars opening his bedroom door.

After seeing the man, both burglars immediately fled the scene.

The victim tried to call 911 but was unable to get a signal on his cell phone. He then walked down the street to the University of Delaware police department and reported the crime.

Officers checked the area but nothing was found.

Police believe the burglars entered the home through an unlocked basement window and gathered items to steal near the front door. Detectives are working with the victim to determine if anything was taken.

No one else was inside the home at the time of the burglary.

Police describe one suspect as a black male, 6'1" tall. The victim was unable to describe the second suspect.
