Caretaker charged with stealing $50,000 from elderly victim

SMYRNA, Del. (WPVI) -- A woman hired as a home caretaker is now accused of stealing from the elderly person she was supposed to protect.

Smyrna police say 51-year-old Dawn Cirillo forged checks and used stolen credit cards dating back to August 2012.

Following a lengthy investigation, authorities discovered Cirillo had allegedly stolen at least $50,000.

She faces dozens of counts of forgery, theft and fraud.
