Child struck in finger in Chester shooting

CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police in Chester, Delaware County are investigating a shooting that injured a 6-year-old boy.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. Monday on the 1200 block of West 9th Street.

Officers arrived on the scene to find numerous shell casings in separate locations.

The mother of the victim informed police that her son and other children were playing in front of the house when a man started shooting in their direction.

The victim was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center and then to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he is being treated for an injury to his left index finger.

Detectives continue to investigate to determine a motive and possible suspects.
