CHRISTIANA, Del. (WPVI) -- A Christmas tree is all that is left standing after a driver crashed into a Delaware home.

Police in New Castle County say the 23-year-old driver was texting Tuesday when he crashed right into a house on Archer Circle.

On Wednesday, Action News got a look at the damage from the inside.

The driver apparently missed a turn, drove onto the grass, over a fence and into the back of the house.

Homeowner Salvador Mata says he was at work and his wife and kids weren't home either.

Mata says when he saw the destruction, his heart jumped out of his chest imagining what could have happened if they were home.

"I didn't sleep yesterday because I thought about it if that happened in the weekend it would be terrible, I can't imagine," Mata said.

The New Castle County Building Inspector has deemed the residence uninhabitable.

That driver wasn't injured, but was issued citations for texting while driving.

Mata reminds people to pull over, the texts can wait.

As of now, they have to find a new place to have their family Christmas.
