DOVER, Del. -- A Delaware prison guard is facing felony charges of conspiring with an inmate to smuggle marijuana and cellphones into the state's maximum security prison.

Delaware State Police announced Monday that 27-year-old Darryl West of Bridgeville was arrested Saturday and charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession with intent to deliver prison contraband and conspiracy.

He was being held on $15,000 secured bond.

Authorities say detectives began investigating Saturday after being contacted by Department of Correction internal affairs investigators.

Investigators say the inmate offered West $800 to smuggle the marijuana and phones into the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.

A search of West's vehicle in the prison parking lot turned up 113 grams of marijuana, two recently purchased cellphones and $700 in cash.
