Driver rescued after van crashes into Delaware pond

Delaware State Police are investigating a crash in which a van landed in a retention pond in Christiana.

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- An 89-year-old man had to be rescued after he lost control of his van and crashed into a pond in Newark, Delaware.

Police responded around 5:30 p.m. to a report of a van in a retention pond on AAA Boulevard and Stanton-Christiana Road.

The vehicle the driver was occupying was found partially submerged in the 4-foot deep retention pond, police said.

He taken to Christiana Hospital for reportedly nonlife-threatening injuries.
