Exton resident on lookout for bear
EXTON, Pa. (WPVI) -- People in Exton, Chester County are on bear patrol.
"It's a little scary. I would run," Morgan Stewart of West Chester.
"If a bear comes up to me - what am I going to do - tell my neighbors to let me in," Susan Bender of White Whiteland Township said.
The area is buzzing after a black bear was spotted in the Oaklands Corporate Center along Arrandale Boulevard.
West Whiteland Township police posted a video of the bear to its Facebook Page and warned the public to be on alert.
Officers say the Game Commission is working to capture the animal, but while it's still on the run, many say they will use extra caution when going out.
"I like to run in Chester County. I will take it inside or a more populated area for now," Marry Ann Parsons of Chester Springs said.
We found a playground near Collegium Charter School empty.
The school is keeping all outdoor activities inside just as a precaution.
"This is the first time for us. Certainly ,it is one thing to study a bear, it's another thing to see one on video walking by your school," Dr. Antoinette Rather, Collegium Charter CEO, said.
Dr. Rath says parents and staff have been alerted about the bear sighting. She says it's being used a teachable moment.
"We've taken all that we can to make this situation something that's bearable," Rath said.
There is speculation that the bear spotted in Exton is the same bear seen in home video taken just days ago by an Action News viewer in Phoenixville, which is about 10 miles away.
Until the bear is trapped or everyone's confident it's moved on, many say they will stay on alert.
The Game Commission says it is likely the bear has moved on, but if you see a bear, you should contact police.
