Halloween is just over a week away and federal agencies are cracking down on over-the-counter decorative contact lenses.

The lenses sold at beauty salons, boutiques, and discount stores aren't FDA approved, so they can be unsafe.

On Thursday morning, federal officials said they've seized 20,000 pairs so far.

Eye specialists say they can scratch the eye surface, leading to infections.

Dr. Rishi Singh says some people also get allergic reactions to the lenses themselves.

If you want wear spooky contacts, he recommends getting FDA-approved ones from an eye doctor.

Or better yet, try makeup or a pair of the decorative false eyelashes
