Freight train jumps tracks in Paulsboro

PAULSBORO, N.J. (WPVI) -- A freight train leaving a nearby train yard jumped the tracks in Paulsboro, Gloucester County.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police tell Action News three cars derailed near Penn Line Road due to a piece of bent track.

Officials say the cars were empty, did not overturn, and pose no danger to the public.

Nearly four years ago, a train derailment on a bridge in Paulsboro released a dangerous chemical.

Much of Paulsboro was evacuated in the aftermath of the spill.

The National Transportation Safety Board found that systemic errors led to the November 2012 derailment, and it criticized the emergency response as "chaos."
