House fire claims a life in New Garden Township

NEW GARDEN TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Fire officials in Chester County are investigating a deadly blaze in New Garden Township.

Firefighters were called to the 100 block of Scarlett Road at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday.

They arrived to find flames coming from a home.

It took them about an hour to bring the blaze under control.

Afterward, they discovered the body of a 55-year-old man inside.

The victim's name is being withheld.

New Garden Township Police say the home was believed to be unoccupied since another fire damaged the property about a year ago.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this most recent fire continues.
