Police say a Lehigh Valley teacher at Parkland High School has been charged in relation to his inappropriate sexual contact with a student.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police say a Lehigh Valley teacher at Parkland High School has been charged in relation to his inappropriate sexual contact with a student.

Thirty-four-year-old Christopher Johnson of Bethlehem has been charged with one count each of unlawful contact with minors; corruption of minors; and institutional sexual assault. All felonies of the third degree.

Johnson surrendered with his attorney at South Whitehall Township Police Department Thursday afternoon and is being arraigned through Central Booking.

On April 2, the parents of Johnson's victim looked at their daughter's cell phone and noticed there were inappropriate communications between their daughter and Johnson.

The parents then notified the school administration and police with their findings.

The victim was interviewed by police. They discovered she was tutored by Johnson in an academic subject back in January.

She told police that the relationship between her and Johnson changed from student-teacher to one of a sexual nature shortly after the tutoring began.

The sexual contact allegedly continued until late March of 2017.

The victim also provided the locations of where the sexual intercourse took place.

Police say Johnson acknowledged that he did communicate with the victim through text messages from his cell phone.

It was determined through the forensic examination of both the victim's and the defendant's cell phones that the content of their texts was sexually graphic.

Police say the texts described their sexual activities and the scope of their contact in detail.
